Philippe Camby, LE CONTE DU TRESOR QUI VOULUT SE CACHER LUI-MÊME

Philippe Camby
A TALE OF A TREASURE WHO WANTED TO HIDE

COLLECTION EUROPA

Unabridged printable text

Once upon a time, there was a treasure wanted by so many people she decided to hide. She was tired of all the greedy people that were attracted to her : the less generous ones, the meaner ones, the money grabbing ones, all those whose claw-like fingers were ready to grab her, buy her, take her away or steal her in order to put her in safes, which were always gloomier, always darker and tucked away. All those, in fact, whose selfishness grew as did their fortunes, and whose souls deep down inside were very ugly.
She said to herself : « These people are only interested in my bright-ness. None of them ever think about the long, secret work my Godmothers had to do to help me become who I am, my Godmothers, who are the Fairies of the Earth, of the Moon and of the Sun. I don’t like these people. I will give myself to the poor, because I have seen that the poor are generous and that their hands are clean. When they watch me, they are happy. They caress me with gentleness. Joy is shining in their eyes. If only they could own me secretly, without the rich people knowing and stealing me. »

« But how can I hide ? » wondered the treasure.
