Unabridged printable text

According to the philologists, Taliesin the Bard lived in the old Powys in the sixth century. A song of his to the Lord of Powys has been conserved what shows that the pœt had already mastered the art of panegyric in the manner of the heroic age in Welsh literature. After, he went to Urien’s court, king of Rheged, who was to be pre-eminent among the Britton kings of this time. The manuscript called “The Book of Taliesin” is a small quarto, written on vellum, in one hand throughout, of the early part of the fourteenth century. Here we present the version done by Skene in Four Books of Wales (Edimburgh, 1868).
