| Set up an independent convention, but complementary to the European Convention of the safeguard of human rightts and basic freedom and fundamental liberties, the European charter for regional or minority languages was put forward for signature by the States in 1992, against the whishes of France, Greece and Turkey. It came unto effect in 1998 and been ratified by Germany, Croatia, Finland, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Norway, Holland, Switzerland, etc.. It’s been signed but not ratified by Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Iceland, Luxemburg, Malta, Roumania, Slovenia, Spain, Italy, Macedonia and the Ukraine. |
